This phrase has a lot of meanings for me.
I love to walk and wander around nature. I’m not a hiker in the traditional sense. Following trails just to get some place doesn’t appeal to me nearly as much as going off-trail (where appropriate) and checking out trees, roots, mushrooms, and rocks, or going creeking, or watching clouds!
As one who ‘wandered away’ from church and religion, I felt the need to defend my path at times; especially early in the journey where I was still trying to figure out things for myself. This quote felt like a quiet reminder that I was in good company.
Finally, sometimes I am lost. I feel like I align pretty well with what is called topographical disorientation. This is the inability to orient yourself in places, including ones you might be in on a regular basis. So I can get lost, a lot, especially if I’m not paying attention. I don’t remember a time in my life where I’ve not been directionally challenged. And no, don’t bring any of your ‘turn north at the first intersection’ directions my way!
