A note about today. I have a book, sitting on my shelf, that is waiting to be picked up again. I opened a chapter to find a story that I’d already heard part of. I knew that reading that story in more depth would bring up things for me that I wasn’t yet able or willing to process.
As the name of this substack suggests, today’s post includes anger, rage, and grief. Before you read further, please ask yourself: Are my body and nervous system ready to encounter these heavy emotions? There is no judgment or shame in saying no. In fact, noticing what we need at the cellular level should be celebrated.
If you need something today that is more uplifting (especially before morning coffee!), here’s a link to a a previous post called joy loves you
Otherwise, here is some emotion filled poetry, both in an image format as well as the substack long form.
the waves of fuckery threaten to overwhelm me every cell in my body is screaming anxiety, fear, dread and then a voice emerging her name rage rage at those who support this rage at the systems which give these waves of fuckery permission, even a mandate to crash over, threatening, trailing death in its wake yet, there is nothing new in all of this except that it comes to my front yard our country is built on the hollow bones of patriarchy, colonization, misogyny supremacy capitalism as its currency to benefit a few offering the opiates of empty religions workaholism and easy distractions over the building of a better world rage at my contributions rage at my ancestors rage at a world of passivity expecting ‘others’ to keep this from happening avoiding the responsibility that lies with each of us clarity begins to emerge we are complicit there is no external enemy the war is within there is no one coming to rescue us what shall we do? you, me, we it is not enough to undo the damage done for the damage is like scorched earth a world destroyed it is not enough to survive we must create the future the future that we want to see the future that we want to be the path forward is choppy and not at all quick or easy stop muttering peace, peace where there is no peace allow rage and grief the rawest of emotions to well up not to overwhelm but to guide to guide us past these ruins to guide us to the future to a future that is waiting for us to create @maryjoburkhard
